Technology has a huge impact on every aspect of human life. It has changed the methods by which people communicate in their lives.
Education has also been influenced by technology, surely in a positive way.
Educations is known as the way of getting knowledge, which means any activity that helps you acquire knowledge.
It isn’t just restricted to classroom work and class time, but because of great technology, it supports learning 24/7. Our consistent need for development made us realize that traditional methods of education were no longer effective.
Traditional approach mainly consists of textbook-based studies, and it evaluates student performance as per their test results. At first, this way of learning was a legitimate choice as compared to the modern method of learning, as testing students were the priority.
After that, it was realized that understanding of students couldn’t be judged just based on good marks in exams because it was identified that even graduates are not able to solve the problems.
Thus, the need for change showed up and was made conceivable by the infusion of technology in education.
So, the question that comes in mind is, How technology changed education? And the answer is, ‘’More than our imagination.’’ How technology changed education will be discussed below.
1) Active engagement with the learning material.
Technology is reciprocating, and students learn by doing, exploring, and getting input.
This enables learners to become energetic about what they’re learning.
Twenty-five years back, if learners wished to study, they would go to a library for research purposes or to get books, etc.
Students still use this method, but nowadays students prefer to learn from their laptops, iPad, YouTube, or recorded lectures.
Another example can be, they may study geography utilizing intuitive software such as Google Earth or Google maps, rather than using books.
2) Interactions and Discussion Forums
Students around the world can easily communicate with each other through Skype, email and messaging.
They can easily be in contact with their friends in an entirely new manner.
By using technology including software and the internet, students can create websites, online social groups, and virtual networks that associate them progressively with teachers and students around the world.
They can easily get feedback from their teachers and can any queries or concerns about the topic.
Online groups also have an advantage for students to communicate with other people around the globe.
3) Learn from real-world examples
This way of learning helps the use of real-world issues in the class. By using the internet, students can investigate the main problems happening that are linked to their course.
It enhances their understanding of the curriculum make them realize that course being taught alludes to real people and their problems.
4) Modeling and Simulation
Simulation programming help students to understand real activities which would be difficult to understand it without technology.
By using simulation devices, students can see the things which don’t exist anymore, such as the life of a dinosaur. It also allows students to see the dynamic attributes of models instead of static models
5) Online teaching and E-Books
As technology has arisen, college lectures can be uploaded online which can be accessed by any individual student no matter where he is from.
All that needs for this are good internet, laptop, and headphones. Even if someone has missed their class, they can continue their learning through the lectures.
Students nowadays prefer E-Books instead of carrying bulky textbooks which strain their back. These digital books can be easily downloaded via the internet.
Nowadays teachers aren’t only instructors, but they play a coaching role to convey a lesson.
Instead of teaching, they support them and guide them on every step as coaches do.
They provide coaching and feedback so that students can be properly trained and can get enough information about the topic.
They also provide them the techniques of critical thinking, research, and decision making.
White/Blackboards have now been outdated, and technology has replaced them.
Instead of these boards, the teachers prefer projectors displaying screens to show them video/ presentations about topics.
Special pens can also be used on these smart boards to write on draw something.
Some other changes that technology made to education
- These have been significant cost decrease (no lease, no purchasing of assets)
- Mobile learning can be performed even if you’re sitting at home.
- Arrangements of betting training for needy students.
- Presentation of data in various structures that take into consideration a case by case approach.
- Online assignments can be submitted easily, and tests can be changed or modified.
Technology in a class resembles an invasion into modern development, and every student gets a chance to be the undertaking chief.
Even though innovation has improved learning a lot better than before, these have a couple of disadvantages as well, which includes, poor information filtering, data overloading, distraction, etc.
These cons can render technological progression in education in the future. Teachers and parents should play a vital role to make sure the technology is being used effectively.
