He plays at the center position from the Panathinaikos of the Greek Basketball League and also in the Euro-League. He is nicknamed “Big Papa” and “Big George”.

His career highlights include winning Greek Basketball League champion trophy, Multiple- times Greek Cup winner, Greek League All-Star title, and many other club-level titles.

He participated in European U-16 Championship held in Ukraine and won a Bronze Medal for the National team of Greece making his country feel proud of him.

While representing his National team in 2015, he participated in European U-18 Championship held in Greece, and again he won a Gold Medal in his home-ground.

Family

He is a son of Kanellos Papagiannis and Maris Papagiannis and is very close to her mother. He has a younger brother, Minas Rafail who has been seen in many matches with Georges; supporting and cheering for his elder brother. 

Education

He joined Westtown high school in 2013 which is a publicly famed institute of Pennsylvania. Then he attended an American School established in Athens, Greece. He doesn’t have a graduation degree as he moved to make his career in Basketball.

Career

Georges spend his early life in the North Suburb of Greece and then moved to the Western region of Athens. He joined Westtown School of Pennsylvania and joined their basketball team as a junior.

When he moved to American School in Greece, he played his senior season at American high school. He made his debut for the Peristeri in Greek Basket League against the Panathinaikos and he was the youngest player to play in the modern era of the Greek Basket.

Georges was signed by Panathinaikos in a three-year contract where he was offered a scholarship from many different institutes including Arizona University, Temple University, the NC State, and Kentucky.

But, Papagiannis choose to play for Panathinaikos with a contract amount of €500,000. He played in Greek cup with an average of 6.5 points with 2.8 rebounds each game and in Euro-League, he was recorded scoring 6.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in just 6 games.

Net Worth

Before moving back to Panathinaikos, he was in contract with the Kings worth $24 million. His net worth is estimated above $70 million including his League bonuses and playing in short-contracts for the clubs and NBA teams.
