Dorian Finney-Smith

Dorian Lawrence Finney-Smith is an American basketball player, born in Portsmouth, Virginia. He is a small forward currently playing in Dallas Mavericks. He belongs to African ethnicity and has good popularity among the youth.

During his school career, he was entitled multiple times with VHSL Class AAA Player of the Year, State level and District level honors and also All-Tidewater player of the year.

Dorian Finney-Smith Family

Desiree Finney-Smith is the mother of Dorian who brought up seven children as a single parent. His husband left the family when Dorian was a kid.

He grew up with his siblings, Monna-Zjea, Sha-Kiyla, Da-Shawn, Ra-Shawn and Ben. His eldest brother named Ben Finney played basketball overseas and his sister Monna is also a basketball player at a junior level. He has twin-brothers, Da-Shawn and Ra-Shawn.

Ra-Shawn was murdered brutally at a house party, he was moved to a hospital but he couldn’t survive the critical situation. Dorian is the youngest amongst his brothers and he is nicknamed Doe-Doe by his family.

Dorian attended I.C. Norcom High School in Virginia. He joined a college basketball team named Virginia Tech Hokies, that participates in the Atlanta Coast Conference.

For graduation, Dorian got enrolled in the University of Florida where he played basketball from the Florida Gators basketball team and also completed his graduation.

Dorian Finney-Smith Career

Dorian had great support from his family in making basketball his profession. His siblings were very supportive as they were also involved in playing basketball. He joined I.C. Norcom High School and he played remarkably. He averaged 19.7 points, 13 rebounds with 6 assists each game.

Later, he moved to Virginia Tech and played as a freshman, his average was quite a decent scoring 6.3 points with 7 rebounds each game. He was transferred to Florida University, where he joined the Florida Gators’ basketball team.

Considering his performance, he was awarded the SEC Sixth Man of the Year award. He was the leading rebounder and also the first player to score more than 1000 points in the history of Florida Gators. He scored an average of 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds with 2.1 assists each game.

Dorian was picked by Dallas Mavericks in NBA draft 2016, he made his debut in NBA Summer League and his performance was quite impressive.

In 2019, playing for the Mavericks, he scored his career highest 12 rebounds against Memphis Grizzlies and career highest 6 assists against the Cavaliers. Recently, Dorian scored his career highest 22 points against loss to Atlanta Hawks with three shooting percentile of 53.8%.
