Lawson is an American Professional player born in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. He knows how to play alone and is extremely versatile. He plays at Power Forward position.
Lawson being freshman was named ACC Rookie of the Year at Memphis. Memphis has a long list of producing basketball professionals like Penny Hardaway, Joey Dorsey, Keith Lee, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Derrick Rose, and others who are the tigers and best players of all time.
His parents are Keelon Lawson and Dedra Lawson, both are basketball coaches. Keelon is now the coach at Hamilton High School in Memphis. Dedric said,
“Our mom was a college coach, so we were just always in the gym.”
Dedric Lawson grew up with his brothers, Jonathan, Chandler and K.J. Dedric’s younger brother Chandler plays college basketball for Oregon and Jonathan is also a recruit. Jonathan is the youngest of Lawson boys and AAU national titleholders.
They share a very close and strong bonding as the whole family is related to the same profession. Keelon used to watch his sons playing basketball as a coach there in city high school.
Dedric was dating a girl from Memphis but now he is single.
Lawson studied at Hamilton High school in Memphis and studied at the University of Memphis in 2015-17 and the University of Kansas in 2018-19.
Lawson played for Memphis Tigers and Kansas Jayhawks in college. His college’s highest score was 35 points in a game. The points average of Lawson was 15.8, 9.3 points for rebounds and 2.5 for assists. Later that sophomore year, Lawson improved his points average to a total of 19.3, in which he had 9.9 points for rebounds, 3.3 for assists and 2.1 points for blocks.
Dedric Lawson was transferred to Kansas along with his brother K.J, but he was suspended by his coach after not participating in Italy trip. Lawson played for Kansas in B12 tournament but Iowa State won the title and secured their place in the NCAA tournament. Lawson waited for three years for is turn in NCAA Tournament but his tournament career ended in two games.
Playing one season at KU, Lawson scored a double-double with averaging 19.4 points and 10.3 rebounds. He was awarded B12 Newcomer of the year in 2019. He is currently playing for Austin Spurs G-League NBA.
Lawson was an eligible Jayhawk from the recent season and he enjoyed his career as Hawk, but he remained unpicked in NBA Draft 2019 but reportedly committed to play from Golden State Warriors for Summer League.
